After months of leaks, rumors, and speculations, Samsung has finally unveiled the latest iterations of its Galaxy range of smartphones in New York today.The two new devices, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ feature an end-to-end, near bezel-less screen that extends to the phone’s sides.
Samsung Galaxy S8 & S8+ Specifications:
The Galaxy S8 flaunts a 5.8-inch Quad HD+ (2960 × 1440 pixels) Super AMOLED Infinity display with a pixel density of 570ppi, while the S8+ sports a larger 6.2-inch Quad HD+ (2960 × 1440 pixels) Super AMOLED Infinity display with a 529ppi pixel density.Inside there’s a Snapdragon 835 with Adreno 540 GPU or Samsung Exynos 9 Series 8895 processor with Mali-G71 MP20 GPU (depending on the region).Both the handsets come in two storage variants – the base model has 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 64GB storage, while the top version features 6GB LPDDR4 RAM and 128GB storage.
Both the phones have support for micro-SD cards up to 256GB as well as IP68 water and dust resistance, which allows for submersion in up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes at a time.
The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are equipped with an 8-mgeapixel f/1.7 Smart autofocus front camera and 12-megapixel f/1.7 Dual Pixel primary shooter for the best low-light, zoom and anti-blur photos with enhanced image processing.
As for connectivity, the smartphone offers dual-SIM card slot, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4/5GHz), VHT80 MU-MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0 (LE up to 2Mbps), GPS with GLONASS, NFC, and USB Type-C.The S8 and S8+ are also the first smartphones to launch with 1 gigabit LTE.
There’s a 3,500mAh battery in the S8+, while the S8 comes with a smaller 3,000mAh battery.Both new phones offer several biometric technologies including a fingerprint scanner on the back, iris scanner, and facial recognition so users can select a secure biometric authentication method that works best for them.
For software, the S8 models are running Android 7.0 Nougat with Samsung’s TouchWiz interface on top.
Samsung has also announced its new virtual assistant called ‘Bixby’.Bixby is an intelligent interface that will help users get more out of their phone. With the new Bixby button on the left side of the phone, you will be able to conveniently access Bixby and navigate through services and apps with simple voice, touch and text commands. Contextual awareness capabilities enable Bixby to offer personalized help based on what it continues to learn about the user’s interests, situation, and location. Users can also shop, search for images and get details about nearby places with Bixby’s image recognition technology.
The Galaxy S8 and S8+ will be available starting on April 21, and will be offered Midnight Black, Orchid Gray, Arctic Silver, Coral Blue and Maple Gold color options.The S8 will cost $750/€809, while the S8+ will set you back by $850/€909.The new smartphones also come bundled with a pair of quality AKG headphones with dual drivers – one 11mm and one 8mm.
